Actually, in real life it looks a lot better - plus this is the first build of the game. I've been told by the designer that the actual final copies will be a lot smoother looking!

Try 'Blockers' sometime. It's colorful, plays w/4, and has a few deeper elements than this...while being just as mechanically simple. Probably moreso if you can believe it!

Nice burned wooden tiles though! Shame about the board folds in the middle of those squares, that looks a little naff.

> It’s a sad fact that most of the licenced games out there are bloody awful. Apart from the mighty Battlestar Galactica which stands above all comers like a fabulous and cruel titan, if a game is based on a TV show or movie, it’ll generally be pretty poor.

Agreed, both on the suckiness of licenced games in general, and the awesomeness of BSG. But what about Game of Thrones (the board game, not the LCG)? That was quite good too!

Also, X-Wing, Dune from the old days, and the My Little Pony Hide and Seek game. Full of win.

I felt like this entry buried the lead. Just like a good newspaper article, I want to know in the first few sentences (or at least the first three sentences) why reading the rest of what you've written will be worth my time. If the game's just terrible, why would I waste my time finding out WHY it's terrible? But if it surprised you somehow, and your review is going to surprise me, I want to know that a little earlier.

I'd say that 7 Wonders would fit that perfectly - it's got lots of paths to victory and offers a lot of strategy for a game that can be done in thirty minutes! I've not had a chance to try cities yet, but have heard many good things - if it's half as decent as Leaders, I'd be delighted!

Very nice site, some good insight into games I've played or owned (can't reccomend Citadels enough! :D) .

I'm looking for something new and strategic though - a friend at a club brought Settlers of Catan with "Cities & Knights" which looked interesting, but I'm looking at alternatives also. Civilisations was tempting but you haven't got a review on it, but I've noticed 7 Wonders is spoken highly of as well (and cheaper than Settlers to acquire).

Do you think 7 Wonders (with expansions) would meet a the requirement for a "simple to grasp, yet strategic" game? Also have you had the chance to review the Cities expansion yet?
